One of our team members is a Marvel Hardcore Fans! So now you know how we get our Iron Man Beads Bracelet idea :P Recently, after he watched the movie Avengers: Infinity War, he decided to write an article on how the movie is relatable to our life. Hope you'll enjoy reading!
Avengers: Infinity War is a movie that has unprecedented culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) ever since the release of the first Iron Man movie on May 2008. Marvel Studios was known for its exceptional storyline by interlinking each film that they produced so that these heroes would come together one day and form the Avengers which had made comic book fans’ dream come true.
Nonetheless, Avengers: Infinity War is even greater as it is the payoff of ten years of storytelling done over the course of 18 films. It is the biggest movie ever made so far involving estimated of 64 different Marvel characters on a massive scale adventure as the frightening villain – Thanos, seeks to assemble the infinity gauntlet to wipe out half of the universe.
Overall, the film is funny, action-packed withepic battles and tragic ending that could change the future of MCU. The movie is a must watch film for global fans as it contains ‘high stakes’ that involved many of their favorite superheroes that they grow up watching. You may not realize the movie actually demonstrate a few similarities and human elements that are relatable to our daily lives and society today.
Below are the 10 REASONS why Avengers: Infinity War is the most relatable superhero movie to date:
1. Making Hard Choices
The movie showcased the burden and sacrifices to be a hero in a complicated world. After civil war, the US government continues to hunt down Captain America and his team even though they were facing global threat from Black Order, children of Thanos. The heroes did the things that they believed was right and choose to defend themselves from the government at the same time fighting against formidable villains.
There were also a few scenes where some of the heroes have to give up the infinity stones in order to save their loved ones despite the fact they knew that these stones decide the fate of the entire universe. Thanos himself also have to sacrifice what he loves to obtain the infinity stones. Some might say that what they did was unreasonable but this is the dilemma or conflict that they have to go through. The complex situation makes them difficult to make the right decisions. “Heroes have to value of doing what is right outweighed the cost which is quite prevalent in our minds,” said Joe Russo, director of Avengers: Infinity War, in an interview. Many of us sometimes had similar problems in making the right decisions, you are not alone!
2. Heroes Are Similar As Any Ordinary Human Being
All the characters in the movie can be seen having emotions, stakes, personal beliefs and reasons in doing something. This had cause several conflicts among heroes similar to any human being in a group. Joe Russo mentioned that “the meeting of Tony Stark and Steven Strange interacting with each other was never going to be a serious affair”, explaining both heroes being egotistical coming from opposite ends of the spectrum, whereby one is a man of science and the other is a man of magic.
A few key heroes were not present in the movie as they prioritize their family first. Some heroes also have strong emotional response when they realized that they have failed in their mission which causes the death of their beloved ones. The movie showed to us that heroes do make mistakes and face difficulties like any human beings. You can be your own hero too without any super powers!
One of the most exciting parts of the movie is the diversity of characters interacting with each other throughout the adventure. The Avengers were able to meet up with the Guardians of the Galaxy as well as Black Panther and most of the African warriors in Wakanda. There were a lot funny interactions and changing of tones between scenes which the Russo Brothers did a very great job in balancing them and create such combustible relationships among such diverse personalities.
During the movie, fans get to experience the rich culture in world of Wakanda as well as the modern society values when with the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. The diversity among heroes in the movie had demonstrated that anyone could be a hero regardless of any races, religions or backgrounds.
4. Starvation Is A Real Issue
Based on the story, Thanos wanted to use the infinity stones to wipe of half of universe so that he can save all species from extinction. Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, explained that Thanos comes from the planet called Titan where his species were facing severe issue of starvation. During that time, Thanos suggested to wipe half of the population in order to prevent from extinction. His people refused his crazy idea, calling him the Mad Titan and eventually the entire species went extinct. Thanos fear of this experience to reoccur and realized that resources in the universe are finite. Hence, he has strong will and determination to collect all infinity stones so that he can wipe half of the universe and restore peace to all species.
Do you know some countries in world do actually face devastating starvation currently as well? According to 2017 Global Hunger Index, countries such as Burundi, the Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Eritrea, Libya, Papua New Guinea, Somalia, South Sudan, and Syria are suffering from hunger issue. This is why it is hard to say that Thanos is a genuine villain as he is also trying to save the population. Do you think the nation that going through starvation would agree with his action?
5. United We Stand, Divided We Fall
Joe Russo described Thanos as ‘world conqueror’ and ‘Genghis Khan of the universe’ with incredible strength and intelligence that make him a very difficult villain to defeat. In the movie, the avengers were divided especially between Iron Man and Captain America, a continuity from civil war, and face powerful threats that forced them to seek help from others. This is where some of the avengers seek help from Wakanda as it is a place known for its technology advancement with massive resources and support. It was a dream comes true for fans being able to watch both teams battle side by side in Wakanda.
Meanwhile, some of the avengers coincidentally meet up with the Guardians of the Galaxy and willing to team up together due to common cause. After several failures, they knew that when facing such formidable threat, they have no choice but to work together as a team. All for one and one for all! “Visually just to see these people standing and fighting side by side is a pretty powerful message”, said Benedict Cumberbatch in recent interview.
6. Female Roles
It is very delightful to see Marvel Studios beginning to add more female characters into MCU. Besides having more females characters such as Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, Okoye, Shuri, Mantis, Gamora, Nebula, Proxima Midnight, Pepper and others; most of these female characters also have more or equal screen time as the male characters in the movie. The female roles in Marvel movies had evolved greatly throughout the years and especially in this film.
The movie portrayed Shuri as the smartest character among them besides Iron Man. Several female characters have also evolved into very powerful fighters that cannot be easily beaten. Dannai Gurira who played Okoye stated that “there is something powerful about being able to play women who do heroic things”. She mentioned that she had a wonderful time while working with Lizzy and other tough actresses when filming. It is seems that not only man, but women as well can save the day!
7. Personal Issues
The biggest reason why Avengers: Infinity War is such a complex movie is because each character has their own unique personalities and personal issues. Regardless the character is a hero or even big villain like Thanos, you may see each of them has their own concerns that they must solve throughout the adventure. Take on another character like Spider Man, he has to deal with school homework, classmates, his aunt, fighting crimes and at the same time helping out Iron Man to be an Avenger.
It is not as easy for Spider Man which is why so many people look up to him because they can relate it with their own lives and have sympathy for him. When different characters come together especially in this movie, they faced difficulties and conflict of interest in getting the job done as they have their own issues to solve, protect and respect. Thus, unity plays an important role especially facing global threat such as Thanos in which they must help each other in order to survive. Rest assured, if you face many issues in your life, it is part growing as heroes do face it too.
As we see in most superhero movies, love becomes a weakness which many heroes are afraid of and usually separate themselves from their loved ones so that villain would not hurt the ones they love. Undoubtedly, this movie also include huge element of love whereby heroes can be seen trying to protect the people they care about regardless they are family members or friends. As mentioned above, some key heroes were not present in current movie as they prioritize their love for their family first. Iron Man can be seen as a loving mentor of Spider Man which Tony can be seen constantly asking Spider Man to leave the fight as he see him as just a kid.
Meanwhile, Anthony Russo explained that the character Vision in the movie is learning to be a human by understanding emotions and feelings which is why we able see Vision deeply in love with Scarlet Witch. A bigger surprise was seeing Thanos having emotions and feeling of love as well throughout his quest in searching and gathering the infinity stones. Kevin Feige described that Thanos as an emotional and complex character and not just a cruel villain with ridiculous objective. Like any human being, we all have something we love no matter how powerful a person becomes and sometimes it comes with a cost.
With previous 18 Marvel films, it can be seemed that every heroes continuously face different obstacles that they had to overcome in their respective adventure. It takes a person to have strong grit or perseverance to go through such long and challenging journey in order to become stronger and better each day. Nonetheless, like what the directors had elaborated, in Avengers: Infinity War, the heroes would be facing the most challenging threat of all that would cost them a lot in order to succeed.
Kevin Feige also mentioned that Thanos is the ‘biggest and baddest’ villain that the Avengers had ever faced. The movie was described as ‘very intense’ because these heroes will face multiple threats and epic battles from the beginning till the end. Undoubtedly, the Avengers will never give up easily and willing to step up and face it together. Regardless of how tough the obstacles are, as long as long a person perseveres, he or she can make it to the top. Like what Captain America always says: “I can do this all day.”
10. Always Be Willing To Seek Help
With intimidating threat charging against the Avengers, it is very tough to face it single-handedly while risking others by letting the problem turning into a crisis. There is a saying that adversity makes strange bedfellows. In times of difficulty, a person meets strange characters. Of course, the Avengers this time can be seen desperate to seek help with other characters that they met on the journey who are trustworthy and helpful especially after they have been divided from civil war.
For instance, Doctor Strange seek help from Tony Stark, Captain America seek help from Wakanda while Thor seek help from the Guardians of the Galaxy. The message tells us that even heroes with super powers like them would have to seek help sometimes when they face difficulties. So, if you are afraid of seeking help, do not be! Helping and learning from each other is a great way to grow ourselves further in life and to succeed.
